2A - Bug List, Caroline Jungels
Bug list
1. When I can hear the parking garage and people talking outside from my bedroom at night
- The walls in my apartment are thin so I can hear people on the outside, and my room is very close to the parking garage.
2. When I must park on the 5th floor of the parking garage
- The garage floors don’t connect to the floors of the building like most do so it is advantageous for everyone to park on the first floor, thus there are never any spots.
3. When someone blocks my scooter and I can’t easily get out of the parking lots.
- UF has overcrowded lots, and not not enough lots. This combined with the fact that people aren’t courteous with their parking when they are in a hurry to get to class.
4. When people smell bad in small lecture halls.
- Its really hot outside and people are sweating, and possibly that they have bad hygiene.
5. When my mom calls and I can’t answer because I’m in class and she gets worried
- She doesn’t know my class schedule so she doesn’t know that my class is the reason I cant answer.
6. Waiting for the shower/bath water to warm up.
- Heating mechanism isn’t as efficient as it could be.
7. Nail polish getting on my fingers when I’m painting my nails
- Inaccuracy when applying the polish, not enough practice.
8. Saying “good morning” to a group of people at the bus stop when I walk up and everyone ignoring it
- Peers have other things on their mind, not in the mood for conversation.
9. Forgetting to shake the orange juice before you pour it
- Being forgetful combined with the fact that you must shake it before you pour it
10. Getting into a hot car
- Its hot outside and the car has no ventilation when the doors and all the windows are closed.
11. Disagreeing with someone on the temperature to keep the apartment/car
- I get cold easily and like it warmer than most people so we disagree.
12. Sweating immediately when I step outside to walk to my next class
- It’s really hot outside, classes are far away and walks are all outdoors with little shade.
13. Needing one item from the store but not wanting to go for just one item
- Walmart is so stressful to go to because it’s completely packed in the beginning of the year because everyone needs things for their new dorms, apartments, and classes.
14. When my roommate breaks the rules and makes our apartment complex think we’re all suspicious
- She is hiding a pet prairie dog named Doug (prairie Doug) and has gotten caught with it twice now.
15. Having to wake up extra early to go to the bus to get to class on time because the options are always 25 minutes early or 5 minutes late.
- Irregular bus times, full busses just drive past, and you must wait for the next one.
16. Only having a 30-minute lunch break which isn’t enough time to leave and get food
- Business wanting employees to be working not breaking
17. When my friends get a water cup and fill it with soda in front of the workers (awkward and embarrassing)
- They don’t want to spend the extra dollars on a drink (I agree but usually just drink water).
18. When you must clean up after your roommates or do all the dishes/always take out the trash.
- they didn’t do chores growing up, they are busy, they forget, I feel awkward asking them to do it.
19. Constantly having to help my older brother with everything related to going back to school (he just started at UF this semester) when I had to figure out everything on my own
- My mom has always babied him and helped him with everything, so he has no sense of personal responsibility
20. Locked homework assignments when you want to get ahead
- Professors don’t want you to just work for the grade they want you to work for the knowledge (which I agree but I just want to get a few days ahead and some assignments are locked until they’re due tomorrow).
Reflection:
After taking several days to complete this assignment, I will admit Professor Pryor was right. When I read the instructions I did not think this was gonna be difficult, because when I'm not required to write them down I can think of an unlimited number of things that bug me. I told a friend about the assignment and she even joked that it shouldn't be an issue for me. But just as was predicted in the video instructions, when I sat down to write them I got 4 quickly and then sort of got stumped. I then started writing notes in my phone for the next couple of days when something bothered me or when I thought of something that commonly bothers others. This assignment really helped me realize some of the latter; the things that happen every day that even I do sometimes that bother other people. Such as one of my examples about people not returning a "good morning" from a stranger, I can admit that I have done that before even though I claim that it is something that bothers me. Another facet of this assignment that I found interesting is that it helped me also reflect on the things that don't annoy me, but rather the simple things in my life that I can appreciate regardless of how small they are. I told my brother about the assignment and some of the things he said he would put down are not things that bother me, so I found that refreshing.
